News from festivals are more than we can handle recently; after trying to find an empty space for certificates from Popok Advertising Festival for Projections and Patras City Film Festival for Moving a Mountain (we stopped hanging them on the wall since 2009), Mathias Fritsche from Edition Caspera sent us good news from Film Festival Cottbus, Germany, where Neighbors’ premiere screening for German-speaking countries was taking place. While Moushegh Baghdasaryan and me have spent almost the entire October working on a new co-production documentary with Anadolu Kultur in Mush, Turkey, Projections brought us good news for three different times; it got nominated in Thermaikos International Short Film Festival in Greece and Kinofest Digital Film Festival in Romania, and suddenly won Silver Award in Popok Advertising Festival. In September our studio started working on a new short film for Children of Armenia Fund. Glimpse of Tomorrow (the working title of the project) is going to be an approximately five-minute-long film demonstrating the work and activities of this organization in Armenian villages. The Documentary workshop for teenagers that we organized in Dilijan this month is over. We all enjoyed this week a lot, especially the participants, of course. All the 7 short documentaries, as well as stop-motion animations and behind-the-scenes video produced during the workshop were screened at the U.S. Embassy on August 17th. Starting from August 10th, our studio, as well as Manana Center’s staff, are busy with running a documentary filmmaking workshop in Dilijan for 15 teenagers from all over Armenia. The main instructor is Jon Bougher, a documentary filmmaker from United States. The project is an initiative of The Embassy of USA in Armenia. Read the rest of this entry »

Earlier this year we did a quite risky and unusual experiment for Armenia; we started selling one of our films, Moving a Mountain, online, as a pay-per-view video. And we did it for just $1,99 – a price of a chocolate bar, much cheaper than a DVD, although it’s way better than a DVD; the film is in HD quality, it’s available for watching for 7 days after you purchase it, there’s no need to wait till the DVD is delivered from God knows where for many weeks, and you never know if the DVD won’t be lost on the way, or if it will work properly.
